This is an excellent building site on one of the outstanding shoreline locations at Laughing Whitefish Point. The building site is between Marquette and Munising strategically situated between upscale city services and spectacular wild Federal land of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Hiawatha National Forest, and Grand Island. A special feature is the massive rock ledge rising smoothly from the water's edge to 20 feet above the water, perfect for your campfire and watching Northern Lights in a star-spangled night by the Great Lake. It has a sloping beach with easy access and no, the water is NOT too cold to swim for most of the summer. The northwesterly half has shallows extending into the lake that makes waves break and roll white and foaming to the beach. It's about as good as it gets for swimming, kayaking - and viewing!

This is a large building site with 250 feet of frontage on Lake Superior and 10.19 acres. The owners of the six parcels in this area have already upgraded the gravel access road off Shore Drive. Property lines are marked on the trees running along each border and the parcels are surveyed, so you can see exactly where the closest neighbor's home will be in relation to the site you pick to build.

There is a low ridge behind the access road that totally blocks any view of this lakeshore from Shore Drive, even in winter. This gives excellent privacy and virtually eliminates any road noise from Shore Drive. The property extends across Shore Drive, and both the topography and forest over the long, heavily wooded hardwood ridge that lies between this property and M28 totally blocks any noise from M28. Superior can be a perfect lake of glass, which happens more often than you expect, but for sheer drama see this parcel when the wind is in from Canada and the lake is rolling! This shore has always been a favorite of mine. Dark green hemlocks and pines reach up to a clear, pale blue northern sky and the crystal clear water reflects the blue of that sky. Sky and water are that color you remember from your youth.

It is perfect for launching your kayak, or yourself, appropriately outfitted in scuba diving gear. Sandstone drops down into crystal water (you can see bottom in 50 feet!) The blues and greens of the water, sharply contrasted with the red of the sandstone, are reminiscent of the Caribbean.

Salmon and trout patrol this shore, and you can cast for them right off the beach. Fresh trout filleted and cooked over a beach fire is an experience you won't soon forget. And watching the waves surge and fall along that edge has an almost hypnotic effect on most people.

Looking straight north Grand Island lies long on the horizon. That big island protects the entry to Munising Bay and the Pictured Rocks National Park and the island is also a part of the National Park system. In the foreground and due east AuTrain Island lays just a mile and a half off shore. As global warming heats up the country it is wonderful to live in this naturally air-conditioned climate.
