More about Nevins Lake Cabin
We specialize in unusual water frontage, land that is larger, better, or has a high degree of privacy or particularly spectacular views. From the first time I saw Nevins Lake back in 1991, I knew this lake was extraordinary.
There are many lakes in the Upper Peninsula and some of them have character. Nevins Lake is one of these with four islands and a shoreline with many points and bays, heavily timbered with white pine and hardwoods. Most of the land for miles in every direction in the surrounding area has been protected forever by a Nature Conservancy conservation easement.
Nevins Lake remind me of the best of the Lower Peninsula’s premier lakes: Big Glen, Higgins, and Torch, in the good old days before they were as heavily developed as they are now. This property includes 371 feet of sand frontage and 7.6 acres of land.
This lake is off the road and out of sight, a quiet, lightly developed, large lake with 276 acre of surface water, a peaceful, natural lake (not created by a dam) with several islands just south of the center of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
There is no public road access to Nevins Lake. You will see eagles, osprey, herons and sandhill cranes. The loons, whose calls are so lovely to hear and are so much a part of On Golden Pond inland lake living, are common and nest here. Hundreds of blue lakes and forest roads rambling in every direction under an arcing canopy of hard (sugar) maples make this an area of uncommon beauty. You should see it in October!
In every season of the year the forest and lakes offer out of door activities for adventurers of any age. Nevins has excellent fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass, northerns, and panfish. Whether your sport is hiking, bird watching, snowshoeing, hunting, gathering wild and wonderful mushrooms from spring through fall, or just being at the lake, there is always activity and opportunity to learn. If you like water sports and swimming, this is your lake!
The Adams Trail, a year round road county road that is the interior access road for thePictured Rocks National Lakeshore, is plowed past the property to a turnaround a few miles to the east, a jumping off site for snowmobilers who enjoy the packed trails and powder snow of the Pictured Rocks in winter. Nearby Hiawatha National Forestadds additional recreational opportunities that are protected for the generations to come. Underground power and phone is carefree and in place.
The owners purchased the property in 1960 and totally remodeled the original 1949 camp in 2003/2004 into an immaculate, efficient and comfortable 30 x 40, 1,560 square foot, four-bedroom home. Improvements included new cedar shake siding, insulated glass windows throughout, new kitchen cabinets and counters, new refrigerator, stove, and built-in microwave, new carpeting and floor coverings throughout, a new sun room on the lake side, new steps and patio on the lake side, two portable air conditioners, insulation, plumbing, new washer, dryer and water heater, septic, garage, carpeting, 42 inch direct TV, and all of it is winterized and usable year round.
It has contemporary country styling, a cedar shake exterior and pitched rooflines that fit right into the North Woods, and a lakeside deck. There is also a large 28 x 40 storage building with second floor storage over a small apartment/exercise room, and several smaller structures for storage and recreational equipment.
The roof is strongly built for deep winter snow and does not have to be shoveled. The walls are chained together to handle the weight without spreading. There are several back up generators, and everything you need to make it usable and comfortable is included in the price. A separate package of mostly new recreational equipment is also available at a deep discount from new at your choice. For home features, room dimensions, taxes, and more click here.
The city of Munising is just 25 minutes to the west with restaurants, golf, a hospital and shopping as well as a small airport for private planes.
If your plan is to buy land and build, see this home and this lake first. It has the features most people want. The setting in old growth hardwoods adjoining Federal land is difficult to match, and the home is a finished product, ready to move in and relax without the hassles of construction. The property has been in this ownership for 54 years, which tells you how much this family has enjoyed it.
This is a good price. Come see it soon. If you snooze you lose.
