More about Peshekee River 40
This property is found north of the town of Michigamme, on both sides of the Peshekee Grade road. The Peshekee Grade, called “one of the most scenic drives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula” by thismichiganlife.com, twists and turns; following, crossing, and sometimes departing from, the beautiful Peshekee River. Many of its travelers are seeking the McCormick Tract, a United States Wilderness area of about 17,000 acres with a rich history. Another destination on this route is Lake Arfelin, a 35 foot deep publicly accessible lake with Brown Trout, Rainbows and Splake.
Before turning north from US 41 onto the Peshekee Grade road, you’ll undoubtedly notice Lake Michigamme to the south. Lake Michigamme is one of the largest lakes in Michigan, covering over 4,000 acres. The lake’s sandy beach can be accessed via Van Riper State Park, and public boat launches are available. Anglers can find walleye, perch, muskie and smallmouth bass, among others.
Emptying into Lake Michigamme is the Peshekee River, which further upstream bisects this property. This is a river of rugged beauty, and of early season brook trout fishing. You’ll have ownership on both sides of its banks with this parcel (as well as easy access at many points along the road). There are building sites on the river, out of view of the road, and power, garbage pick-up, and FedEx and UPS delivery are all available. The road itself is scheduled to be re-surfaced over the next three years. The McCormick Tract is less than two miles away, Lake Arfelin less than one mile, and Lake Michigamme is eight miles from this property.
