More about the Shelter Bay “We’re there!” Cabin
The cabin overlooking Deer Lake is quaint and cozy, and has you covered! It has two bedrooms and a (very fun) loft with a half bath on the upper level. The lower level has a full bath and a large open space with a charming woodstove that could be used for whatever you need.
This cabin is not large, but is highly functional and perfect for an easy, accessible get-away spot. The cabin boasts custom woodwork and lovely wood floors throughout. It is well-insulated and the owner invested in triple-pane windows making it warm in winter and cool in summer. The cabin was custom built in 2001 and has thoughtful features including built-in storage and wood ceiling. It is immaculate and built for easy maintenance.
The nearly 6 acres offers a lovely patio for dinners outside, beautiful mature pines, interesting rock ridges, and a wetland where eagles are often seen (this year, two adults and a teenager learning the ropes). The drive is paved with ample parking for you, family and friends! Just so you know, there is some road noise outdoors, but indoors is peaceful, and did we mention, close to everywhere you want to be in the U.P.
Floating the Au Train River, fishing in the big Lake or Deer Lake just moments away, having “let’s just go lay on the beach” days, elegant dinners in Marquette or Munising – you’re there. The 266 acre and 70 feet deep Deer Lake is right across the street with its sand beach, boat launch and good fishing (pike, bass, walleye and yellow perch).
Also nearby is the imminently fishable, swimmable, boatable 830 acre Au Train Lake, known for its pike, walleye and small mouth bass (very fun to catch… they’re fighters!)
Marquette offers excellent dining, a shiny new regional medical center, a thriving University and all of the amenities that come with it (plays, sport events, entertainment and classes if you’re so inclined).
And Munising is the gateway to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, with its more than 15 miles of shoreline along Lake Superior, over 100 miles of scenic trails and colorful sandstone cliffs towering 50 to 200 ft above the water’s surface. The Munising area is also known for its numerous waterfalls and glass-bottom boat shipwreck tours.
Munising has also become known for some excellent dining options ranging from fresh Lake Superior fish to fine dining to iconic U.P. pasties. And it has its own brewpub.
